What it makes
A display where every figure presses onto its own pair of studs, so it stays put when you brush past or dust it.
Shelves hang on the wall, each row with the full height of a figure. Steps rise like a grandstand: each row a little higher and further back, so the rows overlap and it stays low. Steps stand on a shelf or hang on the wall. The shelves snap into the back plate.
Shelves or steps
- Shelves: 2 rows of 6 is 144 × 134 mm. Every figure in full view.
- Steps: the same 12 figures stand 34 mm tall. Each row is 24 mm higher than the one in front, so every face shows over the heads.
- Staggered steps: every other row moves half a space along, so faces show between the heads in front with only 20 mm of rise. 23 figures in 195 × 50 mm.
Sizes
Collectible series come 12 to a series, so the standard rack holds 6 figures on each of 2 shelves. The older series had 16: use 8 × 2.
Standard spacing leaves room to grab one figure. Pick wide spacing and tall headroom for capes, wings and tall hats. Need more? Print two racks and hang them side by side.
Printing it
- Print the fit test first: four stud sizes, marked above each pair, and a keyhole.
- Use the stud size that holds a figure upside down without a fight.
- Shelves: the back plate and each shelf print flat, then the shelves snap in. Steps print as they stand, open underneath. No supports either way.
- The studs print upright, so they come out round and grip well.
Questions
Will it fit my printer?
Up to 8 figures across at standard spacing is 192 mm, inside a 220 mm bed like a Creality Ender V3. The back plate prints flat, so its height has to fit the bed too: 3 rows is about 183 mm.
How are the shelves and steps held up?
Each shelf sits on small 45 degree brackets on the back plate and snaps in with split arrowhead tabs that click through slots in the plate. Each step sits on a wall that runs down to the bed under its front edge. Both print without supports.
Does it work with LEGO minifigures?
Yes. The studs are the standard 4.8 mm at 8 mm spacing, so LEGO and compatible figures fit. Print the fit test to tune the grip on your printer. It is not made by or linked to LEGO.
